Nursery in transition

Nursery in transition, a set on Flickr.

I could not sleep one night last week because all I could think about was setting up the nursery.  Our "nursery" was set up as our office/storage space when we moved in back in August.  It is a tiny little room and quickly became the place where we could put things that didn't have a place somewhere else--Collin's golf clubs and racquetball racquet, baby items we began to accumulate, files, and my vacuum.  In addition to these piles, we also had a desk with our computers and printer plugged in.  With the baby's arrival quickly approaching (less than 6 weeks now), my nesting instincts began to kick in and it was time to make room for baby!

To accommodate the new arrival and the abundance of furniture, clothes, toys, diapers, wipes, blankets, and books that will come with him, we had to get rid of the desk and the extra piles.  I made room in the closet for Collin's sporting goods and we moved the desk in the living room.  That meant getting rid of half of our "L" shaped couch to make room for the desk in the living room, but it worked out.  Oh the joy of a tiny house!

Collin put together the crib, and we quickly filled it with everything "baby", so he can still have some space to work on building the rest of the furniture.  Right now he is working on the dresser--it is a bit more difficult than the crib, but he is taking care of it!  Thank you to both sets of grandparents for giving us our baby furniture.  We are so grateful...and so is baby!

I promise to post more updates as we get more organized and begin to decorate.  This is just the beginning!

Strangers and my belly

I have had a few entertaining encounters with strangers regarding my pregnant belly.  Here are a few for your enjoyment :-)

-While at a winery around Halloween time (I was not tasting) with friends, a creeper guy rubbed my belly...multiple times.  Where's Collin when you need him?
-I was standing in a long line to use the lady's restroom at a restaurant when the lady in front of me turned, looked at my tummy, and said, "This is a long wait...thankfully I am not in your situation." She was in front of me in line and did not sympathize with me enough to let me go ahead of her.
-While checking out at Ralphs, the grocer turned to me and told me that he had the perfect Christmas gift for my baby.  He grabbed The Smurfs DVD and handed it to me. Then, he proceeded to explain that no one wanted to buy it but maybe my unborn child would enjoy it. Thanks...but no thanks.
-An 8th grade boy in a class I was substituting for turned to me and said, "That is going to hurt so bad when the baby comes out of you!"  He said the exact same thing to me one month later when I substituted in the same class.   Thank you for the reminder.
-A little boy turned to his mom, pointed at my tummy, and said, "Wow, that is one big belly!"  For some reason I felt it necessary to explain to this 4 year old boy that I was having a baby.  I don't think he understood.
-While swimming laps at the pool, a man jumped in the lane next to me.  In between sets, I stopped to adjust my goggles and he started up with some small talk. "How is your workout going? Do you swim here often? How long have you been swimming? Etc." He was awkwardly flirting with me and clearly did not notice my protruding belly under the water.  I shamelessly said something about being pregnant, and he quickly responded, "Oh...okay, have a good swim," and got out of the pool.
-Today, I was checking out at Whole Foods and looked over to see a woman staring at me and smiling.  I looked at her and she looked at me and just continued to stare at me with a huge grin on her face.  I hope she was smiling at my baby bump...I would feel bad if I just didn't recognize her.

Pretty soon, strangers will be flirting and smiling with my baby boy!

Collin took these pictures of me early on Monday mornings. We tried to capture every week but may have missed a few. I apologize for the pajamas and goofy half-asleep faces.

Welcome!

Yes, the Wedel family is growing.  We are expecting our baby boy on March 5, 2012--just 7 1/2 weeks from now.

I thought a blog might be a great way to keep friends and family updated on our little guy and our growing family.  I never thought I would start a blog, so we will just have to see how this goes.  I will do my best to be creative and informative!

Here is a recent picture of me at 32 weeks pregnant.  Last weekend, I visited the Bay Area and this picture was taken while I was at Covington Elementary School seeing old friends from when I taught there. The staff was sweet enough to have a cake and a little party at lunch to celebrate our little guy.  They also gave us our first 2 pairs of gDiapers--we are trying out a cloth diaper hybrid model (not sure how else to explain it--google it).  I am sure those will be topic for a blog post down the road once I have actually tried them out.
